Professional Statement
Kara received her M.S. in occupational therapy from Boston University’s prestigious Sargent College in 2012, and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008. Kara’s Spanish degree combined with over a year living in Spain and Mexico allow her to seamlessly communicate with clients in both Spanish and English. Kara was born with a below-elbow amputation and wears a prosthesis on her left arm. The personal experience living with a physical difference and learning to do tasks one-handed helps her understand the experience of children with disabilities. Kara decided to become an occupational therapist to inspire children with disabilities to be successful in their everyday activities, and she takes pride seeing her clients make progress toward their goals. Kara’s clinical experience includes working with children with autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, sensory processing difficulties, ADHD, extreme prematurity, cerebral palsy, visual-perceptual issues, and motor delays. Her experience with a variety of treatment interventions such as Sensory Integration, Therapeutic Listening, Handwriting Without Tears, Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding, and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) gives her the broad skill-set and knowledge necessary to work with children with a variety of needs. Kara currently resides in The Woodlands, and she enjoys traveling abroad, playing soccer, salsa dancing, biking, baking, and spending time with her friends and family.
